With the absence of a formal centralized data, whenever the company or local operation need updated information about their network assets, a task force need to be assembled to compile, validate, fix and enrich the data.ģ. Without an official network cadaster, the network data is stored anywhere in the company. Usually some engineers’ C:\ drive.Ģ. No engineering CADD standards. The companies have different operations distributed all over the state (sometimes the country), where each city, each operation, has their own “local standards”. Sometimes, even one single operation do not have a standard to follow or to support subcontracting surveying services.Īlthough apparently simple, those two main issues implies on heavy consequences for these companies’ engineering department.ġ. Absence of a single source of truth. The engineers do not have one single point to go for the most updated information regarding their network cadaster (for water or sewer systems).Ģ. I used to work as a Geospatial/Civil consultant for Bentley Systems in Brazil. While working in such capacity I could work closely to some water treatment and distribution companies in Brazil, and therefore could witness the day-to-day problems they have to solve.Īmong everything that orbits the engineering/GIS departments of those companies I could list some common situations, like:ġ.
